Agree with Nikki's suggestion of "a doula for every woman." That doula, of
course, must have some breastfeeding knowledge and experience. Research has
shown that doulas reduce the number of medical interventions and improve a
woman's chances of breastfeeding success. Best of all, however, is that a
doula pgm. can be implemented without appearing radical...without kicking
out all nurses, OBs and non IBCLC staff. I would love to see Kathy D's
dream world of only midwives and IBCLCs in birth centers...however, while
my magic wand is out of order...I am advocating for the doula!
