In response to this, where a baby of nine weeks is described as being put
through the five minute checking routine, it might be of interest to state that
Richard Ferber who wrote about / started (?) using this type of routine,
considers that it should not be used on a baby of this age. I believe he says 6
months at the earliest.
Now, I am bracing myself, because I know that Ferber ('ferberising') has been
referred to in terms of contempt on this list over the past 14 months that I
have been on, and I have wondered why he evokes such a response. I would be
interested in knowing why -- in measured tones, please -- and off-list if this
is deemed off-topic.
And, yes, I have read his book.
