I am working with a mom refered to me by a local LC. She is using a Medela
Little Hearts double mini-electric pump. (Baby 9 days old. Breastfeeding
going good)
When she uses it , which has been only a couple of times due to the problem
she is experiencing, her nipple turns a purplish red. When she stops pumping,
only after a few minutes, her nipple hurts and looks puffy. Her nipple
tissue is quite long and about the size of a thumb. Areola very small.
Nipple tissue is almost bigger than areola. It seems as though the blood
supply is being cut off by pumping. We tried a Lactina, the Personal fit kit
(different size breast shield /nipple tunnel) Nothing changes. Is she out of
luck? Can't pump? My Medela rep is sending me a Personal Comfort breast
shield to try. Any one else see this before? Recommendations?
