I am working with a lactating mom. Her baby was born full term with a
meconium ilius. DX CF. He spent 10 days in NICU. Mom pumped and nursed during
this period of time. He is now 4 1/2 weeks. Mom was started on Reglan 5 days
ago by PCP for c/o decreased milk supply. I saw mom yesterday for nipple
soreness which hand positioning seems to be the cause. Baby is having > 8
wet/ dirty diapers / day. Breasts are soft after feeding. Infant content. Mom
concerned not making enough milk because baby crys about 30- 45 minutes after
feeding. Mom has been pumping 2-3 times per day to give supplement. She is
tired. After reassurance that baby is gaining wt. well nourished and she does
have an adequate supply based on stools and infant content after feedings. My
question: Are infants with CF prone to act colicy / intestinal spasms after
feeding. Could this be contributing to the crying after feedings. Mom thinks
it's related to not enough to eat, I informed her this could occur or
possibley worse with formula. The infant is on enzymes. Thanks for your help
