Cathy B,

I'm behind in my reading, so I hope I'm not repeating what someone else has
said. I think the Chik Fil A thing with cows is that they show cows
supposedly happy that we're eating chicken and not beef. I guess that's
more logical than the companies that show cute chickens and sell chicken
meat.

One Peer Counselor that used to work for me and answered a statewide
helpline thought that women calling from areas that grow cattle or pigs in
Arkansas breastfed more often than women from parts of the state that grew
cotton, rice, etc.or than women in urban areas. Her theory was that people
who had grown up on farms and watched animals being born and nursing
thought of it as a natural thing and were more likely to do it than people
who didn't. I looked into analyzing it as a research project, as there did
seem to be a correlation between counties with high beef and pork farms and
higher rates of breastfeeding. I decided it was too big of a statistical
nightmare because those counties tended to have a higher proportion of
whites to blacks than the other counties, too, and there is a higher
breastfeeding rate among whites.
