To Barbara Hayes & all who participated in developing the NYS BFing
curriculum -

You are indeed to be congratulated! It is no small achievement, as you say,
and I for one am very grateful that this step has been taken.

I'll tell you why I didn't respond more promptly and enthusiastically, and
it has absolutely NOTHING to do with you or the work done by your committee.
It's called, I'm ashamed to admit, sour grapes on my part: I'm still ticked
off with the New York State Dep't of Health over the loss of my position as
the county WIC BFing Coordinator. Not on my own behalf - I'm doing fine,
thank you - but because I believe that the priority should be on getting BF
ed & support back to those WIC moms.

Case could be made, of course, that if a good solid BF curriculum were
implemented in K-12, we wouldn't need the BF Coordinator. We're not there
yet, and we DO need the WIC BF coordinator, in every local agency, as
mandated.

So, realizing that one thing has nothing to do with the other (the right
hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, in such a bureaucracy), I
withdraw my churlish grudge and say, loud and clear, THANK YOU to all who
have worked on this. I know from experience how difficult it is to get
anything done through the state. Good job!

Cathy Bargar, RN, IBCLC Ithaca NY
