I just did a Medline search on menorrhagia crossed to breastfeeding.
Nothing. Zip. I would ask the good doctor to cite the references he used
to make his decision that weaning would help. Sounds like he had the same
poorly presented hormone lecture that I did.

One article on menorrhagia stated that 20% of women worldwide have
excessive periods. There ought to be enough of us on Lactnet to offer some
collective wisdom. My physician pointed out to me that because so many
young women have been on oral contraceptives before bearing children they
may normally have heavy periods (there are 20% of us, by one definition)
but just never knew it because the oral contraceptives made their periods
lighter. Could that be the case here? Can your client just get used to
buying the biggest size of whatever is sold in the feminine products aisle,
at least for the duration of breastfeeding? From personal experience I
recommend super tampons backed up by ultra overnight pads. Then you just
eat Total cereal and spinach as much as you can stand it. A good furniture
cleaner/spot remover helps too. ;-)
