Okay, I'll put on my old hat here for just a minute.  Until last year I was
the Recertification Coordinator for IBLCE so I can give a pretty
authoritative answer to this for IBCLCs in North America.

1.  You should have gotten a booklet from IBLCE that explains all the ins
and outs of recertification.  If you can't find it, contact them for another
one: 703-560-7330 or <[log in to unmask]>   Donna Moore is the Recertification
Coordinator.

2.  CEUs are *not* CERPs.  This is critically important!  To recertify as an
IBCLC you must have continuing education that has been approved by IBLCE for
CERPs (Continuing Education Recognition Points).  CEUs given by other health
care provider organizations can be used for a portion of the 75 CERPs
required for recertification, but you *must* work with IBLCE to assure that
you can do this.

3.  You can use independent study CERPs for 25 of the 75 you need.

4.  By far the easiest and probably cheapest way to recertify when you are
short on CERPs is to re-sit the exam.  I know a lot of people balk at the
idea, but IBCLCs taking the exam for recertification do very well.

For everyone else reading this, if you're already IBCLC or planning on
becoming one, please be sure to keep *IBLCE* informed of your whereabouts.
IBLCE IS NOT ILCA.  Sending in a JHL change of address will NOT let IBLCE
know where you are, and reminder notices about your certification will end
up lost.
