Our NICU has had really good success with moving premies from gavage to
breast.  We make sure we introduce the breast first, do not introduce a
bottle at all in the first week of oral feedings, and never bottle feed more
times a day than breast feed.
I know that Mary Grace Lanese did a study on this in Kansas which was
presented at last year's conference, and I need her information desperately!
Mary Grace, if you are on Lactnet, please email me privately and tell me if
your research finally came out in a journal. (which journal?) If anybody
else has seen that article on this subject, please let me know.
