Scenario: Mother and baby (2 weeks old) walk in, referral for poor weight
gain. WELL educated, very supportive of breastfeeding woman who is also a
health professional. She will make this work.
Wider diameter nipples, teeny mouth on baby-- some oral anatomy/nipple
disproportion. Some tongue bunching- but a very tense baby, arms splaying,
strong body, arching. No drawing in of nipple, it has the new tube up
lipstick look at the end of a feed, not good milk transfer.
Milk supply is preserved (he is now 4+ weeks), has been combo feeding-
tube, bottle, some breast (but no good consistent sucking), mom is pumping
and baby is gaining weight. She has been to a chiropractor who feels that
the cranial sacral bones are good, nothing out of alignment, going to an
infant massage therapist who confirms descriptions of the baby.
I do believe that this is a tincture of time situation-- because this mom
will make it work.
What are your favorite "tight baby" techniques, and even stories of tight
babes who have finally loosened up? I want to make sure I am not missing
things for her, and to have stories of down the road successes would be
very helpful.
Thanks for your assistance!
