I normally just read others' postings, but I was called by a mother who
has had changing breast size during her pregnancy, and since I had never
heard of this, wondered if anyone else had. The thing that makes it
critical is that she has had two miscarriages; these both occurred between
the birth of her two boys, ages 5 and 2, the first at 5 1/2 weeks, the
second at 6 weeks gestation. Because of her past miscarriages, she is on
50 mg progesterone bid. She is currently 11 weeks pregnant and has noticed
her breasts getting larger and smaller, and larger and smaller again. She
remembers losing breast fulness during her 2nd miscarriage, but didn't
notice with her 1st pregnancy if this happened. She thinks it happened a
little with her second son. This time around they seem larger some days
then others, are firmer at night, and one will get larger than the other
while she sleeps (they alternate). She says she has no general swelling,
and cannot remember if the change in size while she sleeps is related to
the position she sleeps in.
Her doctor just said he didn't know what it could be. Though normally
quite sane, this is driving her over the edge, because she's afraid she's
going to lose the baby. To make matters worse, at her checkup last week,
they couldn't pick up a heartbeat, which could be okay, but is not reassuring.
The way we left it is she will contact the doctor again tomorrow and ask
for them to listen for the heartbeat and maybe do an ultrasound or blood
tests. I said I would try to find out if anyone else ever had this
experience. What do you say? Please email me privately so I can get the
answer as soon as possible.
TIA.
