Greetings.... One of our neonatologists has again started to insist that
our little preemies (2# or more) take breast milk from the bottle before
allowing baby to go to breast. Yikes! I know this has been discussed
here in the past, but I'm not accessing the information in the
Archives. Can anyone help me out with this? I'd love to get the
articles about oxygen sats remaining stable with breastfeeding, etc.
This Doc also has been questioning a Mom about what she's been doing
with her milk that might have contributed to her baby's sepsis 2 weeks
after a preterm birth. Mom has asked me numerous times if her milk
"made her baby sick". We've reviewed the storage and handling of milk
guidelines for the VLBW (very low birth weight) baby, and she seems to
be doing all she can. She's concerned and I'm frustrated.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week to all who celebrate it now
(PS I made sugar cookies, each with a brown frosting areola and
hershey's kiss on top, to bring to work yesterday. They were a hit on a
busy Monday afternoon. Several who missed them yesterday mentioned it
to me today. Thanks for the idea!!! :)
