It is the Denver Developmental Test that has the item about how to feed a
baby, and only putting the bottle in baby's mouth counts as correct. I was
told at a conference last fall that this test had been revised to include
breastfeeding as a correct answer. So perhaps the new tests are better, but
haven't trickled down to all the "testing centers" yet. Many of the
standard tests are based on a 1950s style mom-at-home who sews, irons,
bakes, etc. At 4, Miranda was tested and didn't know what a thimble was
(how many LactNetters own/use a thimble??!!) and said the goat with horns
was an antelope -- she'd just come back from two years in Mali, West Africa,
where the goats don't have horns, but antelopes do.
