I am a little behind in responding to this but I think it might still be
of interest.

How about using an old-fashioned separatory funnel? It can be sterilized
and might be affordable a long term situation for use at home too. If
the hospital doesn't have one or know how to get one then any
college/university chemistry department should have access to a
scientific glassware catalog. (Can you tell that my husband is a
chemist? - not working in a lab right now though)

Hope this helps

Sarah
