Headline: Mom with AIDS virus wants to breast-feed, fights to keep baby

Associated Press. Eugene, Oregon -- An HIV positive mother lost custody
of her child for breastfeeding. Kathleen Tyson and her husband David
are suing, claiming that HIV cannot be transmitted through milk and also
that HIV is not proven to cause AIDS. The 4-month old boy, Felix, has
so far tested negative. State's lawyer Robert Nagler says she was
"playing Russian roulette" with the virus. Says Hilary Billings, the
Tyson's attourney, "She made a choice she feels is in Felix's best
interest."

Juvenile court judge Maurice Merton will decide permanent custody of the
child.

Last year, Billings convinced a Bangor, Maine court that Valerie
Emerson, also infected with HIV, should retain custody of her children
and be able to pursue (or not) the medical treatment of her choice. She
has decided not to allow drug treatment of her infected 4-year old son.
