Imitrex is the only thing that really works for me if I have a bad
migraine. So I really suffered the first year or so after my third child
was born (I don't think Imitrex was out yet with the first two). Then I
took the information on Imitrex from Hale and Briggs to my pediatrician,
who is very pro-breastfeeding. She said she thought it would be okay for
occassional use. She might have said something differently with a younger
baby.
I never give advice on medication to anyone related to breastfeeding. I
offer to talk to their pediatrician or give them information to take to
him/her and let the physician decide. I think LCs would be risking trouble
to tell someone that any medication is okay. If the AAP has said it's
okay, I'll tell them that. I just never say anything that implies it is MY
opinion.
