Nancy further elaborates on the AAP statement:

So, what this says to me is that we should not be saying to parents, "You
should sleep with your baby because you may reduce the risk of SIDS."  What
it tells me is that I have an obligation to tell parents how to SAFELY
co-sleep, if they choose to do that; that there is no evidence it will reduce
the risk of SIDS, but there is evidence that it encourages breastfeeding.
Yes?  No?  How do we, given what Sandy has postulated and Nancy has written,
discuss this with our parents?  I liked Pat Gima's statement about being
"true to yourself -- integrity, inwardly and outwardly"" -- that was
paraphrased!! -- but what are the legal ramifications?  So far, as much as I
have read, the AAP has not yet said, OK, based on this, no one is to ever
tell parents they can't co-sleep.
