HI - I know we have discussed black flakes a while back because I remember
writing then. I often see women in Israel with dark areolas which flake in
the first few days. I have always assumed that this is a variation of the
normal and reassure the moms that the brown bits in the baby's mouths won't
harm them. By the time they go home (48 hours) the flakes usually disappear.
As far as preference for breastfeeding boys or girls I was astonished to
hear this many years ago in my La Leche groups- it had never occured to me
that a babies sex would influence how a mother would feed her baby. I wonder
how many breastfeeding "failures" are due to the "wrong" sex.
Interesting......
And lastly - something that made my day. I came into to a room on Friday and
found a new mother who I had helped earlier with a deeper latch - calmly
breastfeeding her 2 and a half year old. I joyously said "what a lucky child
you are" . She was so happy with my response as she gets a lot of flack from
her friends and family. This lovely toddler tanked up and ran down the hall
with his brothers. (Yes, everybody visits in Israel). Warmly, Toby (Haifa,
Israel)
