I like to point out to patients that dads have their own special role and
bond with their babies that doesn't involve feeding in the first few months
of life. Dads are very good at playing with, bathing, cuddling, letting baby
sleep on his chest, etc. Feeding comes in when babies start solids. Dads
then go on to getting involved with the kids in every way as the child
progresses through toddlerhood and childhood. Feeding just isn't, and
shouldn't be, a big deal for dads in the exclusive breastfeeding phase.
