Alicia: Has the mother considered using non-lactose based homeopathic
drops for food allergies? I know that Nature's Sunshine Products has a
glycerine based product that can be given to babies (I've used it in
clients with great success). It seems to be the least
invasive/harmful/torturous option at this point. This really sounds like a
cow-milk-protein allergy where the protein is hidden (given that kiss on
the cheek reaction). Casein is the protein to look for, but ANY other
cow-milk by-product, including whey or lactose, can have trace amounts of
the protein attached; thus, triggering a reaction. So, if the mom thinks
she's been "safe" and using a margarine that has whey or even been
processed next to it, she might be reacting.

The other suggestion I have is to build that baby's intestinal flora. Give
non-dairy (orange-juice based) Lactobacilli directly to the baby along with
breastmilk. The mom should take it too, but with FOS (fructo-oligo
saccharides--to help the bacilli grow). This will help the intestines
naturally heal and not be so "leaky". That's the real term used--not one I
made up.
