Hello to all of you. I've been lurking for awhile, and really enjoying the
information on lactnet. I am a Lactation consultant in a large community
hospital that does betweeen 200 and 250 deliveries per month. I also have a
Lactation Center at our Women's Health and Resource Center. I've been an LC
since the first exam eas given and an LLLL since 1974. Guess that makes me
a "golden oldie." I have two adult sons, ages 30 and 27. Both were
breastfed until they weaned. My younger son is a Navy SEAL.
Unfortunately, I have seen a couple of babies hospitalized at our
children's hospital for rotavirus. One was a 6 month old exclusively
breastfed baby that wound up in the PICU with severe dehydration. The other
was 4 months old and receiving some formula feeds. Makes you wonder if this
bug is more virulent than it was in the past. Incidentally, the 4 month old
recovered fairly quickly.
