Barbara,

This may be far fetched, especially because I don't have a lot of info about
the case. Have you discussed what home life is like? Please don't take
this wrong and I hope I am wrong.

As you know, many men get jealous of babies, because of the amount of time
mom spends with a baby, especially if she is breastfeeding. I haven't
personally run into it myself - yet, but anticipate to, with the group of
women I work with, (I'm relatively new to this BrF Couselling business) but
I attended a workshop entitled "When an Abused Woman Becomes a Breastfeeding
Mother". The instructor was Mary-Anne Taylor (a Lactation Consultat and
Co-ordinator at Kaylela Family Centre in North Vancouver, BC). She shared
with us many cases where she would get moms in with what appeared to be
chronic plugged ducts and mastitis. In her experience, she found that many
were in abusive relationships and because thier partners were jealous of the
BrF relationship, they would target the mom's breasts (pinching, hitting,
applying just enough pressure to hurt her).

I hope to God that your mom isn't experiencing that. I would never wish it
on anyone. However, unfortunately these atrocities happen. It's a
different angle.

Good luck,

Cathie Wilson, LLLL
