this business of antibodies being passed from mother to child through
breastfeeding has come up before and jack and others always reply to say
"complete nonsense" (probably not the word they are actually thinking when
they type), but since it is a somewhat general response it is one of those
hard to find in the archives sort of thing.

when you have an arthritis disesase (and sjogren's is one of them), you can
find vast amounts of information and disinformation out there. remarkably
similar to lactation and just about everything else. but, if we could pass the
"cause" of the disease to a baby by breastfeeding, it would be very obvious,
and we would all know about it.

this mom needs to be seeing a good rheumatologist if she has been diagnosed.
in this day and age of managed medicine in america, your "gatekeeper" doctor
is supposed to manage all these things, but it will really, really pay in the
long run for this woman to see a specialist. there are so many mentions on
lactnet of persons being diagnosed with an arthritis disease that never see a
specialist. that's like getting a diagnosis of cancer and never seeing anyone
else but your family practioner.

hey, better analogy, that's like having a severe breastfeeding problem and NOT
seeing a lactation specialist. that's better.

and here's a tidbit i "learned" in albuquerque, remarks overheard in the
weight room from one lc to another, both hospital based (one now "retired"
from the hospital).

"i found out why women get fat on their upper arms during pregnancy, it's put
there for breastfeeding."

response: "oh, that makes sense, since it's so close (to the breasts)."

gosh! however this was a terrific conference with some of our own famous
lactnuts there, including barbara clay and alison hazelbaker and you are all
missing a bet if you don't start going. particularly in light of jacie giving
out terrific expensive chocolate to us lactnet people, and me giving out
mediocre but tasty chocolate on behalf of the milk bank. i put out ten boxes
and they were all gone in a flash!

lactnet was recommended favorably several times, and mentioned as a source for
references, opinions, and research. of course! "everything i know about life i
learned from lactnet." i feel a list coming onl
