There are two STD's which get into the blood as part of their natural cycle.
Syphilis and HIV.  Syphilis can also be transmitted through skin lesions.
Though gonorrhea can occasionally get into the blood, this is unusual, and
the mother would have known because she would have been sick, very sick.
Thus, if the mother is negative for syphilis and HIV, there is no concern
about the children having been infected from the breastfeeding.

PID is usually caused by gonorrhea or chlamydia.  I don't think there is a
need to be concerned about these having gotten to the children through the
milk.
