hi all this is my first posting to lactnet so forgive any errors. I read
with interest the case of the woman with nipple rings wishing to
breastfeed. We recently ran an article in our members magazine about nipple
piercing and breastfeeding.
I can scan it and send it to anyone who wishes a read, anyway the gist of it
is that breastfeeding with a nipple ring is possible but removal of the ring
is advised if they can, the nipple hole heals up very rapidly when nursing
within a few hours so the mother better re insert the ring after the feed or
she may have to get her nipple re pierced if she still wishes a nipple ring.
Nursing was still possible with a nipple ring in place but the bar bell
type was best suited to this. the article covered all apects of feeding well
and was quite informative
hope this helps Debbie Spence nursing mothers assoc, Australia breastfeeding
counsellor. [log in to unmask]
