I sent out copies of the Newman handout to healthcare providers in my county "how to tell if a healthcare provide is not supportive of breastfeeding". the nursing director of our health dept. felt this alienates the providers. When I told him that the creator of these handouts was a physician himself he said he must be a very progressive physician (can you imagine that breastfeeding, which has been around forever, being described as progressive?). he seemed to miss the whole point of the handouts. He even mentioned the word zealot in his discussion with me and was teetering on the "not making moms feel guilty bit"! I let him know I would inform the "progressive" Dr. Newman of his opinion, as well as Lactnet, and would let him know of any feedback I received...
