Just so you all are aware. While OBs may get the baby out, and pedis and
neos take care of them the babies thereafter, leaders in both specialties
are being encouraged to talk with one another. It is my understanding that
Larry Gartner (pediatrics and neonatology) is working hard to develop
collaborative links with the leaders in OB (don't know the names, sorry) so
that the recommendations of the AAP Work Group will be signed onto by the
OBs (poor sentence structure, but I hope you understand my meaning).
Collaboration requires talking and invitations to hear from one another. It
will not happen if we simply decry what others don't know (or fail to
recognize what we might learn from them that WE don't know).
We can all do our part by (continuing to) share "these interesting new
findings..." that we have come across-and, of course continuing to ask for
documentation to support procedures, recommendations that do not seem quite
on the money.
