I want to publicly thank Chris for referring so many of you to LLL Leaders
when you have a legal or other question. It is not necessary, however, for
you to contact the Area Professional Liaison (APL) Leader, in fact I would
like to encourage you to use your local Leader for a few reasons.

First, it helps the local Leader to be aware of situations in her area, and
she, because of her proximity to you, might have local insights that are not
known to the APL (who sometimes lives in a different state).

Next, while the local Leader might not herself have the information
necessary to help you on hand, LLL has established a "chain of information"
that enables the local Leader to be able to tap into LLLI's Center for
Breastfeeding Information (CBI) and the legal and medical advisory
boards--so while it might take a little time, she can get
the information for you, and benefit from learning about the situation
herself.

Also, APLs are volunteers and can at times be overwhelmed with a large
volume of calls, and it helps her immensely if some of these are directed to
the local Leader first.

Finally, the most important reason I can give for asking you to contact your
local Leader is that it enables the two of you to develop a working
relationship, and become aware of the services you both offer to the mothers
in your community.

Local Leaders can be found on the LLLI Web site
( http://www.lalecheleague.org/WebIndex.html ) if you don't already know how
to contact them.

Thanks again,
Sandee Luttkus
