Theresa,
I am really impressed with your 8th grade! What a great way to integrate
breastfeeding into their studies. I run a girl scout troop of twenty 9,10,
& 11-year-olds. One of my co-leaders is a breastfeeding mom. She comes to
all the meetings with baby. It is interesting that the girls have a great
understanding of breastfeeding. Most of these girls were breastfed and
have younger siblings who have breastfed. They simply see breastfeeding
as the way a baby is nourished; they expect babies to breastfeed. They
often surround mom as she is feeding baby and argue over who gets to hold
the "boy scout" when "he's done eating". :-) Watching these girls with
this baby gives me so much hope for the future. Perhaps, one day, we will
be surrounded with moms breastfeeding babies in malls, parks, etc. and
there will be no comments from people other than, "what a cute baby!"
