Latest hospital news release:
SURVIVING OCTUPLETS SHOW SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT, REMAIN IN CRITICAL CONDITION
HOUSTON (Jan. 12, 1999) -- All seven of the surviving octuplets remain in
critical but stable condition at Texas Children's Hospital's neonatal intensive
care unit. A few of the children, however, are showing signs of improvement.
Attending Neonatologist Dr. Carol Lynn Berseth announced that, after
responding well to antibiotic treatment, Chidi has recovered from an infection.
Chidi's sister Chima was also placed on antibiotics early Monday for a
suspected infection and had to suspend feedings of breast milk. Today, Ikem,
Jioke and Gorom continue to receive small amounts of breast milk in addition to
their regular intravenous feedings.
And, in even better news, Ebuka and Echerem have begun receiving larger
feedings of mother's milk, which will aid in their long road to a healthier
weight.
