Jack says "But of course, the pharmaceutical companies tell us we need more
stuff." (for the flu)
Yeah, and they sell them to regular people who would probably be all the
better off for a couple of days in bed with tea, juice, aspirin, and a good
fat book. All advertised directly to consumers (who are then supposed to go
badger their doctors, I guess, since you can't just buy these drugs), mostly
for the sole purpose (I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT ELDERLY OR ILL PEOPLE WHOSE
HEALTH IS SERIOUSLY THREATENED BY THE FLU here, just us regular working
joes) of getting us back at our work stations faster, working for the gain
of those multinational corporations again.
Reminds me of issues Heather raised recently, with focusing on getting new
mothers back to work ASAP, rather than allowing for longer parenting
leaves...For whose good are these beneficences, anyway?
Cathy Bargar (Please, I'm neither underplaying the health threats to those
in compromised status posed by the flu, and heaven forfend, I'm not against
companies developing adequate BF policies. Just making an observation, which
I find not unrelated to some of the current rants.)
