Zyprexa (olanzapine) is one of the newer antipsychotics drugs. It
is used for those
shoe have been resistant to the more tradi-
tional antipsychotics/neuroleptics.
In the psychiatric hospital where I work
full-time some Psychiatrists treat it as
if it were "platinum" more precious than
gold.... I've had patients who've been on
thorazine for years, not getting any better,
but okay, but haven't been able to be d/c'd
from the psychiatric hospital. The PSYCH
changes them to one of the new drugs.....
and.......they decompensate. so much for
NEWER and BETTER DRUGS....
I personally don't think that it is any better
than Clozaril (clozapine), Risperdal (risperidone), or another new
one whose name I can't remember now.
BTW - the use of/taking of Clozaril (clozapine)
necessitates frequent blood tests due to causing
a sever blood dyscrasia - decreased WBCs to
extremely low levels. And a lot of contraindications
along with it........
I am stopping right here BEFORE i put my foot in my
mouth concerning standard psychiatric care.........
whether in a state institution where I AM or in a
private hospital.......

off my soapbox......
