Pat,
Regarding your post about the legal implications of treating mom by a
pediatrician, this thought has occurred to me.
My feelings are that I'm treating the infant-mother dyad. I'm also fully
aware that treating one without the other being treated is insufficient.
Which raises the question of how can I not treat mom? I do know how to
properly treat yeast and mastitis so it isn't beyond my ability as a
physician.
Also with mom sitting there having an acute problem I can fix is it not
unethical to with hold treatment if I'm not absolutely sure she can get
immediate proper treatment somewhere else?
Of course if mom doesn't complain that I treated her the case is mute
anyway.
