Cathy said, among many other eloquent statements:
<< Hospitals must be held to a better standard of
accountability than this, and until they are, the best set of credentials in
the world won't do a thing for our moms & babies.>>
Cathy -- incredibly well said and well stated! I've heard over and over and
over that "a nurse is a nurse is a nurse" and should be able to go anywhere,
work anywhere, and do anything. I've been in maternal child nursing since
1972 -- a LONG time -- and when I was working as a staff nurse (in 1992 when I
quit) part time, and was pulled to, God forbid, the cardiac unit, I trembled
the entire time. Fortunately, I was treated as less than a nursing assistant
as I would help turn people, take vital signs, and answer lights. Pretty
expensive nursing assistant, if you ask me. I'm no longer in a position to
have to do stuff I can't do, and can no longer remember how to do. Praise the
Lord!!! But, mothers and babies in many institutions are getting shafted
because the hospital administration doesn't value bf, IBCLCs, OR their mothers
and babies.
