I have been working hard at attempting to keep up with reading posts every
day. I have really learned a lot and am often awed by the wealth of knowlwdge
and experience. I have been a LLL for almost 17 years, but am now realizing
that I am rarely presented with the tough issues. Moms may contact me and
begin the process, but either quit before resolution or visit a LC (somehow if
you must pay for addvice, or your insurance pays for it, it is surely more
valuable!) I hesitate to make home visits, because as volunteer, I become
concerned about the energy I might overinvest in a situation. If a situation
appears to have strong medical issue tones to it, or a mother is very needy, I
will often suggest a call to the ped. and a visit to an LC. I am now at a
point in my life (kids old enough) to consider taking the big step- THE EXAM-
so as my dh says I might get paid for what I've always done for free anyway.
My main concern is my ovious lack of experience in hospital care of the
newborn, as well as the more complex situations that present in the newborn
period. I would realy like to "intern" with a IBCLC in practice. If anyone in
the greater Boston area is able to afford me this opportunity, I'd be
grateful! Either email me privately, or make suggestions to the list. Thanks
for all the opportunity for learning.
