A mom called yesterday with a question about vitamin supplements
recommended to her for psoriasis. They included, among others I think, B
complex, Vitamin E and Vitamin A. We ended up talking about the Vitamin A
mostly and she is probably going to postpone this regimen until after
weaning, but... we're curious.
Between her prenatal vitamins and this beta carotene supplement, she
would be taking 28,000 IU of Vitamin A. Hale says anything >5000 IU is
dangerous for liver function. A lactnet archives search found a post
referring to the WHO guidelines as 10,000 IU Vitamin A daily as a
maximum. Even my plain old daily multivitamin has 5000 IU in it and one
could assume (hope!) that I am getting additional vitamin A in my diet.
This mom's question was of course where this should be undertaken while
breastfeeding.

TIA, Sue
