RE: the question on excessive drooling being a symptom of allergy, I can't
recall exactly where I read it, but read it in more than one place.  Doris
Rapp's book on "Is this your child?"  covering allergies may be one of the
places. her attitudes and brush off in regards to breastfeeding is apalling
though. Dr. Sears mentions allergies and I think has made mention of drooling
in 'The Baby Book".  One other sign that my son experienced is the patchy
tongue referred sometimes as "island tongue" or "geographic tongue". This can
indicate an allergy in a child.  With my 4 kids all are dairy sensitive and
each had very different manifestations of that allergy. Gregory had the
classic colic, constipation , gas and lots of drooling- like a machine. He
wore bibs all the time and I changed them frequently to keep him from getting
drenched, especially during the winter. Alexandra has the mildest reactions,
is able to ingest more dairy products than the rest but when she reaches her
tolerance level she breaks out in eczema and wakes frequently during the
night. Kristina has the fussiness , gas , burps constantly, and gets eczema
doesn't sleep. And Athina gets oozing cystic acne, cradle cap rash on head
when she ingests too much dairy + restless sleeping but doesn't get the
fussiness or gas.  AS a baby she had prolonged cystic baby acne and cradle
cap. Dr. Sears "The Baby Book " was the one place that I read that there could
be a connection to dairy products!  And sure enough dairy was the culprit.
Athina was a 4th of July baby and I was eating an ice cream cone every day!!!
Didn't have any fussiness or gas so thought I was home free.  Not. As soon as
I eliminated the ice cream cones the acne and cradle cap started clearing up.
One cone would start a fresh outbreak.. have found that frozen yogurt is o.k.
once in a while and now that she is older she can eat that too. but no milk
products.  and the cradle cap still flairs up if I eat as few as two dairy
items in a day.i.e. cheese and ice cream .  Oh, Oh.,OH, don't want to forget
this: Gregory had the most UNGODLY tantrums as a toddler after eating dairy
products. I thought at the time that it was the terrible twos. he is now 7 and
too much dairy in his diet provokes the same unreasonable tantrums now!!! This
is a highly gifted 7 yr old that tests betw. 4th & 6th grade on academic
testing and most of the times is very mature and sensible. Give him macaroni
and cheese and a glass of milk and you will see Dr. Jekyll appear!!!!  can't
reason with him at all.  chemical additives in food can provoke similar
reactions in some children. Gregory is also highly sensitive to chemical
additives. preservatives and dyes provoke horrible asthma attacks in him, my
sis and mom too.  enough already I am going to write a book, because I have
gone from a totally ignorant rather mainstream mom to a much more
knowledgeable fanatic. Nice to know that my kids often acted out because they
didn 't feel right at the time!!!  People, including many physicians look at
me as if I am nuts, but I'm with my kids 24/7 and I darn well know what makes
them sick.  I have to get off of my soapbox soon, too bad we can't make all
the damn corporations responsible from the formula companies to the food
manufacturers. Well if they have to do business how about making them
responsible for all the health care costs that they are directly responsible
for?  Sorry, I will stop ranting and raving at least for tonight.  Lisa P LLLL
