Thanks to all who replied to my WIC mom's low supply. I needed the
confirmation that reglan wasn't for her. I spoke to the mom again tonite
and she feels that her milk supply is getting better. She can pump 3 oz.
for the day and uses that when she needs a break. She is taking the
fenugreek ( I will recommend the other herbs suggested). Thanks Pricilla
for the info on the depo. I failed to tell you that her dh had a vasectomy
6 weeks ago. The depo was to prevent any accidents for 3 months. (Poor
choice with her hx.) She has had severe migraine headaches ever since and
really bad depression. She's anxious for it to wear off. She has stopped
taking her Zoloft since 26 Dec. and says she's feeling a little better.
Some days are better than others. So we'll hang in there & I'll give her as
much support as I can. Mostly I listen <g>. When I sit in her smoke-filled
house with my eyes burning and hear her talk about her kids allergies,
asthma etc. I want to cry. I have encouraged her to smoke outside but so
far no good. And yes, she does take in a lot of caffeine. Thanks Cathy,
for reminding me not to take it so personal. I sometimes get so wrapped up
emotionally that I need the reminder. I especially appreciate all of you
wise ones being out there--it gets lonely here at times:-. Oh the best
part, her OB (remember the wine) is in Jacksonville and is very interested
in talking with me and open to new ideas I can give him on
breastfeeding...YES! The final part of the story in not breast-feeding
related but I have to share for any dog lovers out there. When I first
delivered the pump to this mom one cold, rainy evening, the cutest, saddest
little scotty dog met me outside the door. Seems he was the" in house pet"
for 4 years but with the two last babies, was booted outside to live with
all the bugs, fleas etc. He would sit by the front door hoping to be let
in. I fell in love with him and a few visits later the mom told me she
wanted to find a good home for him. Needless to say, he was my Christmas
gift. We adopted him, fleas, ticks, heartworm and all. He's cleaned up
well and is the king of the house. He loves the indoor life. Once again,
thanks to all of you. Kym Dunton, RN, BA, IBCLC, on Amelia Island FL where
the temp is dropping!
