I was in the drs. office yesterday with a sick child when I saw a Dr. pop out
of an exam room and grab a brochure on "Feeding your Baby" by Gerber.
Thankfully, breastfeeding is listed first with good information about
colostrum, how-tos and how much. Under the formula section however it says
"Infant formula is like breastmilk." I even looked at the publication date.
March 1998. They have other good information here aobut flexible feedings and
letting the baby's appetite guide you.
I would like to call them and complain. I've been reading all the posts
about the WHO code. I know they aren't required to follow it but is there
anything I can say about truth in advertising? Is this too ambiguous a
statement to call them on?
I would also like to comment on the thread about different size babies. I
have three sons and they came in 3 different sizes. I think I have commented
before that my oldest gained no weight between 4 and 6 months. He nursed very
well and he did gain in height. Fortunately I have a pediatrician who didn't
panic and didn't try to fix what wasn't broken. My son is 11 years old now,
eats like a horse, and gains little weight. Someday he will be very grateful
for this.
