We have a baby born just a few days ago to a Gravida 2 now Para 2 40 year old
mother with Pierre Robin Syndrome. Baby does NOT have a cleft palate but has
a funny wavy lower gum line. Was put to breast (has an IV in continuously).
Had
a cardiac monitor and pulse ox on during entire feeding. Baby fed prone
position with mom in 45 degree angle. Baby's pulse ox stayed in normal range,
no drop in heart rate, and 2 days later this baby is gulping at the breast.
IV is still in. Then along comes another pediatrician, covering for the
primary physician, and he orders
bottles for this baby! God only knows why. Nurses do not feel comfortable
giving this baby bottles for fear of aspiration. I am going to look in the
archives for more info on this syndrome, but if any of you have had first hand
experience with babies
like this, please email me at [log in to unmask] Thanks alot. Loni Denman, RN,
IBCLC
