I am trying to make the connection between LCs being sued for the
illness/death of a baby and the issue of "touching a mom with her permission".
As you can see by my signature, I am not an LC but would still love to know
what one thing has to do with the other??? It seems impossible that the
litigation is implying that an LC touched a mother and her baby and so the
baby got sick and/or died.
Touching anyone without their permission (whether it is on their arm or their
breast) is battery. If a mom asks me to help her get her baby latched on or
show her how to use a sling, I am certainly touching her (with her permission-
after all, *she* came to *me*) - how can one not touch a mom/baby sometimes?
Especially first time mothers ... who sometimes do not understand until I
point it out what the term "tummy to tummy" means. I also always ask the mom
before I touch just to be sure.
