Rob,
1. Fingerfeeding is often helpful when baby has a lousy suck, depending
on the cause. I advise the mom to fingerfeed until baby is no longer
'starving' and is sucking well, then immediatly try to latch baby on.
2. I like the Nuk origional latex orthodontic step 2 (for 6-18 mo old
babies) medium flow nipple. Whew! All this description is necessary
because they have a zillion varieties! The reason I like this nipple is
that it has a very fat base. I advise moms to tickle baby's lips with
the bottle nipple, wait for a huge open mouth, then pull the baby on
like they would on the breast, and make sure the baby gets hisX-Mozilla-Status: 0009 of the nipple. This way baby is practicing sucking with a
lot of teat in his mouth, just as he will need to on the breast. Have
had quite a few breast refusing babies eventually take the breast after
being bottlefed this way when mom was unable to finger or cup feed.
3. No, there's nothing that chocolate won't cure,X-Mozilla-Status: 0009
