Dear Folks:
Jean Cotterman's post about the early menarche in a 9 year-old was
interesting. Is there anyway to get a medical history on the child?
A concern world-wide about soy formula is the level of phytoestrogens; the
folks in New Zealand said it was the equivalent of 2-3 birth control pills a
day if a baby was fed exclusively on soy. Also might want to look at the
amount of commerical beef in her diet as that is another source of hormones
that can trigger early menarche.
There are several threads here: genetic, dietary and environmental. Maybe a
bit of each has a potentiating effect in a susceptible individual. One can
never say for sure, but the world-wide trends are scary! Warmly, Nikki Lee RN,
