Wendy notes,
<< Actually there is an entire chapter in the Atkins book about doing the diet
while nursing, and even pg I think... uh oh... or wait is that the Zone I
am thinking of? I am almost certain Atkins has a nursing chapter.
I don't think it's safe to go into ketosis though, nursing or no. Though
to his credit atkins does say this is only to be used a week or so. >>
Well, actually, since I know the ATkins book backward & forward (at least the
one I bought in March, 1997) there isn't anytthing on nursing or pregnancy --
I think you must be thinking of either the Zone or Protein Power.
The ketosis only really lasts for the 2 week induction phase. And no, I don't
think the body is eating up its own tissues for energy. There is far more
energy from the protein consumed than there is in carbohydrates. The diet
makes imminent sense.
And it works.
Jan -- has been on Atkins for 22 months and 1 week, not that I'm counting.
(Though -- true confession time -- I did go off over C'mas)
