Hot flashes, whether induced through surgical, lactational, or
age-induced menopause--CAN be alleviated by taking wild yam and chaste
tree/vitex. These are compatable with breastfeeding, but the dose needs to
be "played with" until you find the right amount. In the NSP combination
capsule (450 mg) I start moms off on one capsule twice a day (BID) and work
up to whatever it takes up to 3 caps TID or QID. It is remarkable how much
better women feel on this. In some countries there are "special foods" for
nursing moms and I suspect that these foods duplicate both galactogog and
ammenorrhea effects. Some naturopathic practitioners recomend high volumes
of soy as well. 'Hope this helps.
