I have a mom that I have been working with for a while who has a baby
that has been declared FTT.  Although I counter that the baby is just
FTG (failure to gain) as the baby is only in the 10th % (according to
those horrid charts) but has reached all of its developmental
milestones on "schedule" and is a happy alert baby.  The baby was
recently tested for Cystic Fibrosis which came back negative.

The mother is now wondering if the baby could have a food allergy
that is causing the baby not to gain.  This is her fourth child to be
fully breastfed.  She is changing doctors after a very bad experience
with the one that she has been working with.  The mother is willing
to go on an elimination diet to see if this is a problem.  Aside from
the low weight gain (baby was born in the 100% and is now in the 10th
%, but has gained all along, just at a REALLY slooooowwwwww rate) the
baby has slimey stools.  The mom says that they baby has never really
had seedy stools and even though she has brought this up to the
doctor on several occaissions he keeps dismissing it as "bad milk."
He is blaming her for following "cultish" attitude towards
breastfeeding and has been pushing her to feed the baby high fatty
solids with lots of butter and cream to plump the baby up.

Does anyone know where I can get ahold of any indepth information on
food allergies and low weight gain?  I tried searching the archives,
but got tons of stuff that didn't relate to this.
