Has anybody heard of using St. John's Wort for sore nipples? A
co-worker has found two mom's who have been using this for sore nipples,
and the moms said it was effective. What would you caution the mom
about using this remedy. I did look up information in the two books
that were on hand--"New Holistic Herbal" by David Hoffman, and Jeanne
Rose's "Modern Herbal"--St. John's Wort has tanin as one of its active
ingredients, also is an anti-inflammatory, astringent, and a sedative
effect. It's use is also recommended for deep cuts and septic wounds.
The tincture has an alcohol base, and needs to be diluted. The other
recipe for a liniment has one making it with either olive oil or
sunflower oil, with cautions about using base oils. If they were using
the liniment, maybe it is the oil that is making things better.

Thank you.
