Dear Lactneters,
I am in need of a little help. Client has mitrovalve regurg and has been
prescribed Vasotec 10ml for hypertension (blood pressure is now stable). Mom
is nursing an almost 4 month old. Pediatrician has stated that drug is
perfectly ok per AAP. Cardiologist says that she absolutely must wean and
that the drug is unsafe for breastfeeding babies corroborated by a pediatric
cardiologist. Drug has been approved for use in breastfeeding mothers by AAP
per Hale. Have contacted LSC. Info sent me stated that AAP rating was 6 and
usually compatible with breastfeeding. Mother understood Hospital LC to say
that it was not safe. Upon conversation with LC she actually told mom that it
was compatible with BF. Is there any information you all might have that
indicates this medication would be contraindicated? Any information would be
greatly appreciated.
PS: When mom called cardiologist's office to ask that they contact Dr. Hale
and the Lactation Study Center for her, she was told that they were too busy
to do that sort of thing. If she wanted that information she would have to
get it herself. Gives one a warm, fuzzy feeling doesn't it? ARGGGGH......
