As others have pointed out, the best solution to this is close medical
supervision of the child until you're sure breastfeeding is well established
and the mother knows from her own direct experience what successful nursing
is. Still, I've run into lactation consultants who browbeat mothers or
diagnose medical conditions (esp. Candidal infections in the breast) that
leave me scratching my head. Is there such an animal as pain in the breast
parenchyma caused by yeast??
