Hi LactSisters!
This is my first post so let me do a quick introduction. I'm Janet
Barrilleaux (pronounced Ba-ree-oh) from Kenner, LA but soon to be West Houston
area (in June). I'm RN, BSN, and became IBCLC in 1989. I've worked as a LC
in a hospital setting for the past 8 yrs. and have been a volunteer for the
"breastfeeding group" (are we not supposed to say LLL?) since 1984. Married
20 years, 2 incredibly beautiful and intellingent breastfed teen girls. Well,
they're not currently breastfed.
This is what I need to know. Are there any labs in the US that would be
able to analyze breastmilk to see if it is being "cut" with additional water?
Don't we get the most interesting phone calls? Parents (I assume) are
divorced and mom has been sending child, almost 1 year old, to visit dad on
weekend with a four ounce bottle of EBM. Dad has noticed BM has been changing
in color, now appearing almost clear and baby has begun refusing to take it.
Lawyer-type person called me for name of a lab that might be able to tell if
BM is being watered down. Just email me privately if you know of anything.
Thanks a bunch,
Janet G. Barrilleaux, RN, BSN, IBCLC
Kenner (right next to New Orleans, party hard capital of the South), LA where
it's almost 80 degrees and the daffodils are blooming!
